Infinity on Ice

Her eyes
Locked in concentration
Her glistening blades
Slicing the ice
In an impeccable manner
As she weaved in and around
Without the slightest waver

Her posture
Straight and poised
With professionalism beyond her tender age
Gliding across the rink
Her skates scarcely meeting the ice
As her pace quickened
She braced herself for the climax

Her feet
Like satin ribbons, they intertwined
Hovering in the air for
Three or four or five seconds
As we held our breath
She struck the ice as graceful as
A dolphin dipping into the ocean

Her arms
Elegantly stretched above her head
Her fingers in a gentle curvature
Back arched and head thrown back
She twirled like a spinning coin
Serene as a music box ballerina

Her face
Composed and relaxed
Not even a heave to signify her rapid breathing
She launched splits in the air
Abrupt, effortless leaps
The ice beneath her crackling as she landed

Her legs
Delicate and long
Stemming from a petite body
Caressed the smooth ice
As she encircled the rink
Feeling its circumference through closed eyes

She drew an infinity on ice
With a sensational finish
